When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." --John 8:12

Walking in the Light
Have you ever gone for a walk in the dark? Obviously it’s difficult to see without the proper lighting. Last month I wrote in this column about the importance of listening closely to the Holy Spirit. Have you been doing that over the past month? Have you been spending extra time in prayer, doing more listening than talking to God? If you have in fact listened closely to His voice, have you responded in obedience and put into practice what you heard from the spirit? In other words, have you been “walking in the light?”
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”  -- I John 1 : 7
As we pray to the Lord and listen to the Spirit, he will give us divine guidance through all the challenges of life. He will give us special “light” along those dark pathways so that we may navigate them safely. Our responsibility is to recognize the light and faithfully walk in it, even though it may take us down an unfamiliar or scary road. There is a “cause & effect” principle at work here. As we obediently walk in the divine light, Christian fellowship is enhanced and the purifying effect of the blood of Jesus continues in our lives. The process involves listening closely to the spirit, discerning the light, and then walking obediently in the lighted pathway. I challenge us all to practice regularly listening to the quiet voice of the Holy Spirit, and then to respond by going wherever he leads.
Walking in the light,
Pastor Jim
