Thank God For Family
In 1939 President Franklin D. Roosevelt set the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day here in the United States.  It has become a time-honored tradition for most American families to gather around the dinner table on Thanksgiving, consume lots of turkey and stuffing, enjoy fellowship, and (hopefully) give thanks to God.  Does it work this way in your home?
Most of us would readily admit we have a multitude of blessings for which to be thankful; food, health and homes to mention just a few.  And while every household has its challenges, surely most of us would also list our family and close friends as blessings we appreciate as well.  So, despite the family issues we may be facing, how can we offer up appropriate praise and thanksgiving to God?
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful."  -- Colossians 3:15
We should all, of course, take advantage of this annual opportunity to ponder all the blessings we have received from God and genuinely express thanksgiving to Him. This year, however, we will focus on the special gift of "family" with which the Almighty has blessed us. When I use the word "family", I am referring to more than just those with whom you share a home.
I urge you to join me each Sunday this month for worship and the study of God's word as we explore this subject more fully. I trust we will all discover there is an endless list of both people and possessions for which we must offer thanksgiving to God. Let's do it! Together let's make this the greatest Thanksgiving season ever!
Thanking the Lord for family and more,
Pastor Jim
