Summer Stress

Do those two words go together, summer and stress? Most of us look forward to the summer season anticipating that it will be more relaxing than other times of the year. Yet somehow it doesn't normally seem to work that way. I recently took a look at my summer calendar containing everything from weddings and meetings to vacations and picnics, and then quickly closed the book! I am probably not alone in cramming a wide variety of activities into the relatively short period of time we call summer.

Does summer really have to be filled with so much stress? Is there anything we can do about it? If so, what might that be? Well for starters, we can get our priorities straight and put our schedule in God's hands!

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
-- I Peter 5:7

As summer begins this month it seems wise to me to seek the Lord's guidance from the start. As I was writing this column I was trying to think of a new way to say the same basic thing I say at the beginning of every summer season. Then I decided there was no compelling reason to change my words. I am, therefore, repeating the exhortation I gave you at this time last year:

"Remember to invest some of your summer time and energy in the worship and praise of the Creator. We have tried to make this as practical, comfortable and convenient as possible. To accommodate a variety of tastes and schedules we offer two morning worship services every Sunday. Contemporary worship is held at 8:30am and a Blended service is held at 11:00am. We also have classes for all ages from 10:00 - 10:45am. And don't use the heat as an excuse, we have air conditioning too!"

Well, I hope this helps to get you off to good, less stressed start to this summer. I look forward to enjoying the season with you as we seek God's will and guidance together. Take some time to relax and enjoy your relationship with the Lord.

Relaxing in Jesus,
Pastor Jim
