A World of Difference

Does anything in this world ever change?  In a state of discouragement and frustration it is believed that it was Solomon who wrote in Ecclesiastes 1:9 "What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun."  It would be easy to look at the chronic world problems of war, famine, disease, injustice, racial hatred, etc. and conclude that indeed there is "nothing new under the sun".  But such a pessimistic outlook is unjustified and inaccurate in light of the dramatic and positive changes brought upon this world through the life of Jesus Christ.
“The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world."  -- John 1:9
It was five years ago this month that my wife and I experienced our first ever mission trip.  We visited an orphanage in Mexico. For me, though in my 40's, it was truly a life-changing experience.  I have never looked at the world in the same way since then.  This month I am privileged to represent the Pittsburgh Conference as a ministerial delegate to the General Conference of the Free Methodist Church in Spring Arbor, Michigan.  Currently the church ministers in 76 different countries.  I will meet with hundreds of others from literally all around the world.  We will pray, worship, sing and work on issues we hope will help us as global Christians to positively impact ("change" if you will) this shrinking world in which we all live.

Is it possible to make "a world of difference" in someone's life?  Is it possible that God wants to use you and me to help bring about lasting life-change in the lives of thousands, even millions, of people here and around the world?  Yes, it is possible and it is the undeniable call of the Almighty upon all who claim his name!  I challenge you to join with me in the midst of all the other demanding summer activities to worship the Lord and study his word together.  Who knows, even you might see "a world of difference" in your own life!

Changing in Jesus,
Pastor Jim
